“ We need to get back into the 'Culture' aspect of Agriculture"
- Karen Washington, founder, Rise & Root Farm
Elevating Voices. Activating Change.
Culture is the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. Together, the stories within this film are co-creating a new vision for a system that generates food and fiber along side land sovereignty, resilience, and a rich dialogue that elevates Black, Brown, and Native communities.

CULTURE OF CONNECTION'S CORE THEMES
Healing, connection, and remembrance weave a deeper story about the relationship between people, community and the land. These themes are the core pillars of the Culture of Connection, and foundational in our collective efforts of cultural healing and regeneration.
Healing
Culture of Connection aims to illuminate a path toward cultural healing by inspiring the replication of food sovereignty programs in communities struggling with health, access and equity while also creating economic opportunities in both food and fashion.
CONNECTION
Culture of Connection aims to connect people to a larger context of why it is necessary to heal the USA’s broken food system, by sharing stories of how Black, Brown, and Indigenous efforts are using community agriculture to improve wellbeing.
RemembrAnce
Culture of Connection aims to illustrate the historical context that has contributed to the inequities in the food system. Through remembrance, we enhance empathy and care for the impact of actions long ago taken that continue to reverberate with unhealthy outcomes in BIPOC communities.
